Sports and action music is often represented through familiar visual clichés, with explosions, speed lines and photographic imagery dominating the genre. The challenge was to create a visual language that expressed the energy of the recordings themselves, allowing the music to determine the behaviour of the artwork without illustrating action literally.

The music behind Adrenalin is built around momentum, impact and controlled intensity. Those qualities became the starting point for the artwork. I developed a procedural system that responded directly to the music, with frequency, amplitude and rhythmic emphasis influencing the length, density and direction of hundreds of individual elements. As the audio changed, the structure expanded, contracted and changed direction with it.

The animation developed a sense of acceleration through continuous expansion, compression and directional change. Long spikes emerged during moments of increased energy, while denser clusters formed around quieter passages. This gave the structure a physical quality, as though the changing force of the music was pushing and pulling it into shape.

The animation shows the complete system responding to the audio in real time. I observed the structure as it evolved and selected a single frame for the published artwork, capturing a moment where the energy of the music and the composition of the image came together.
